The Watch Box

This is a keepsake box for 8 watches, with a pull-out drawer tucked underneath for man accessories.

Some details of the real piece:

I designed it around contrasting timbers: walnut carcass with a maple interior and a figured top and a few details I really enjoyed working out: the grain wraps continuously around all four sides, the lid is sawn from the assembled carcass so the match is seamless, and every edge carries a fine line of maple stringing.

It's a hand-tool friendly build, and a rewarding one if you like precise joinery and quiet detailing.
The box measures 261 × 191 × 150 mm.
The drawer is dovetailed by hand, with an eight-compartment watch trail made from interlocking separators.
The top panel and bottom float in grooves.

A few notes before you start

I left the drawer pull out of the plan on purpose; it's a small detail, and I think it should be yours. The timbers are a suggestion too; build it in whatever woods you love.
